Associate your items with chapters
Updated 30 Aug 2024
Items you edit, create, or import are categorized as My Items in your view of the Item Library in Mastering. Associate your items with a chapter and section to more easily search for them in the Item Library.
Same chapter for items you copy and edit — Items you copy and edit using the Simple Editor are associated with the same chapter as the original item.
No chapter specified for items you create — Items you create with the Simple Editor or items you import are associated with the chapter category No Chapter Specified.
No chapter specified when you copy to a new edition — When an earlier edition course is copied into a course based on a new textbook edition, all My Items are associated with No Chapter Specified.
- Select Instructor Tools then Item Library from the Modified Mastering course menu.
For Mastering courses, select Item Library from the course menu.
- Select a Chapter option.
If you previously specified a chapter (and section, if any), select the chapter and section.
If you didn't specify a chapter or section, select No Chapter Specified.
- Select My Items from the Item Type (any) content filter.
- Select or clear any other content filters, like for an answer type.
- In the resulting list of items, select the Edit Chapter link beside the item title. For books with sections, the link that appears is Edit Chapter/Section.
- From the drop-down lists that appear, select the Chapter, and if applicable, the Section. When the Item Library doesn't show chapter and section
Book divisions other than chapter and section — Some print books contain other divisions, like units, modules, topics, or concepts. When possible, Mastering may use these alternate divisions instead of chapter and section.
Only chapters vs chapters and sections— Sometimes a print book with chapters and sections shows only chapters in the Item Library. For example, the Item Library might show only Chapter 5 (no sections, and no Section menu) for a print book with sections 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3.
- Choose Save.
- The item is moved to the chapter/section or other book division you selected.
- You can now search the Item Library by chapter/section and by selecting My Items under Item Type (any).
